Fifteen years back, Blackhawk Limousine began a customized Santa Barbara wine tour throughout Southern California, and what a great experience it has been for us and our clients! The popular wine regions of Southern California are made up of Santa Barbara, Santa Ynez Valley, and Malibu Canyon, with Santa Ynez Valley becoming the most popular for wine tourism since the 2004 movie Sideways confirmed its status as a hot spot. Emerging as a wine destination, Southern California’s mostly hot and arid countryside is not as well developed as you go north, but the Santa Ynez Valley in particular continues generating a huge following for its wines and sheer determination to grow grapes in such a picturesque location.
Santa Ynez
So many of our Santa Barbara limo clients enjoy what Santa Ynez Valley has to offer. Over 140 wineries throughout the region, thoroughbred ranches, world-class beer tasting, specialty shops, boutique restaurants, and endless activities and events. The contemporary and casual setting of the Santa Ynez beckons visitors to settle in for a great meal and wine experience, or enjoy the beautiful sunsets over the gently rolling hills of the Santa Ynez Valley. Santa Ynez valley is mostly known for it’s grapes and is very rich in history. Outside of town, the countryside is riddled with several small farms of all shapes and sizes, many of them open to the public with fun things to do. Many allow “Pick your own” fruit such as pears and apples, and then you pay per pound. Some have a petting zoo for just a few dollars or just ask for a donation. The wine country of Santa Barbara County was undeveloped and far from comparable to Napa for so long. Times have changed greatly! The wine region is now among the most popular in the world. The iconic landscape is gently rolling hills, offering growers a variety of terrain. In addition, the fog often lingers, making moister conditions for the grapes. In the eastern part of the Valley, the land is flat, with full sun and easier planting, which allow for increased production. Both areas are visited by millions of wine enthusiasts from around the world. Thousands of them were transported by our Santa Barbara limo service!
California has been a center for grapes and wine since the Spanish missionaries brought the first vines to the area in the late 1790s. The European settlers during the Gold Rush of the 1850s began developing the wine industry. Today, local wine is known worldwide and California is the fourth largest wine-producing area in the world after Spain, France, and Italy. Whether it’s food, adventure, art, or history, there’s a limousine tour and tasting experience to pair with whatever your interests may be. On-site winery tours are alive and well, but off-site tasting rooms are booming!! They are a great alternative to exploring a wine region without driving from winery to winery. Los Olivos is one of the favorite stops we offer for this very reason. The tasting rooms are plenty!
These days it has become "the thing" to do for bachelor and bachelorette parties, birthday celebrations, anniversaries, and any special occasion. We get calls daily from local clients and those flying in to spend vacation time. They love the leisurely drive during a Santa Barbara limo experience, where they can visit with their friends, take in the scenery, and taste some wine. It's an experience of a lifetime, and it's right in our backyard.
